About Olivine Sand Foundry Grade
Olivine Sand isan ideal mineral to use for the production of ManganeseSteel Castings as it is chemically less reactive than silica sand. SiO2 reactswith MnO in the steel to form a MnSiO3 slag resulting in serious burn ondefects. A further advantage is that Olivine Sand has a low thermal expansionrate compared to silica sand and its high thermal shock resistance further morereduces sand expansion problems.IMR produces Foundry Grade Olivine Sand in various sizes as per the client srequirement and have range of high grade to lower grades based on applicationareas & size of castings.Typical Chemical Specifications : MgO SiO2 Fe2O3 Al2O3 CaO LOI Grade 1 45-48% 39-41% 7-9% 0.5-1% 0.2-0.3% 1.5% Max Grade 2 43-44% 39-40% 9-10% 0.5-1% 0.5-0.8% 2.5% Max Grade 3 40-42% 40-42% 10-12% 0.5-1% 0.5-0.8% 4% Max Typical Physical Properties : Melting Point (C) 1750 Bulk Density, Loose (g/cm3) 1.7-1.8 Thermal Expansion (in./in.) 0.0083 Thermal Conductivity @1000 C (cal/s-cm-C) 0.0025 Mohs Hardness @20C 7 pH @25C Basic Free Silica Content (%) <0.1 Specific Gravity (g/cc) 3.2-3.4 Available Sizes for Foundry Applications : AFS 30-40, AFS 40-50, AFS 50-60, AFS 90-100,AFS 120
