Olivine sandis one of the most widely used Refractory Mineral. Its low free-silica content and strong resistance to metal attack along with the refractory properties caused that Olivine Sand to be used as Eccentric Bottom Taphole (EBT) Filler in Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), popularly known as EBT Filler.
The Purpose of Olivine Sand as EBT Filler is to make sure that free opening occurs when steel flows freely from the tap hole to ladle once the tap hole is opened. The free opening rate is mainly determined by the performance of the tap hole filler sand.
Olivine Sandis most ideal Refractory Aggregate for EBT Filler application is because,Molten Steel does not have the ability to cause wetting effect on Olivine sandin EBT of EAF and the liquid permeability in the tap hole is reduced.
